ASX ETF

ASX ETFs include those Exchange traded funds or ETFs available on Australian Securities Exchange. Currently there exist more than forty ASX ETFs. There are two types of ASX ETFs – International ETFs and Australian ETFs.

Australian ASX ETFs had been introduced in year 2001 and now they cover a wide variety of focused benchmark indices of Australian such as Russell High Dividend Yield or ASX 200 (S&P) Fund.

ASX ETFs

ASX ETFs were extended in 2010 to include ETFs of Australian sector. Presently five companies are there that issue the ASX ETFs:

  1. Russell Investments
  2. Australian Index Investments
  3. Vanguard Investments
  4. State Street Global Investments
  5. iShares

There are Synthetic ETFs i.e. those which don’t have exact makeup of index, and that attempt to follow benchmark index via additional financial instruments, are also accessible on ASX through BetaShares.

It was in 2007 that the International ETFs on ASX were introduced. They provide Australian investors a chance to indulge in international sectors and markets at a low cost. ASX International ETFs replicate performances of foreign indices, but they are sold and in Australian dollars. Presently iShares and Vangurd offer these ASX international ETFs.

iShares

Being one of the largest ETF families available, iShares has above 450 funds and almost twenty exchanges throughout the world, also including ASX. These ETFs are almost 50% of total ETFs in the market. Presently there are over 20 iShares offered on ASX.

Vanguard

Another big player is Vanguard, that are usually recognized for their joint funds, and for their worldwide presence in numerous countries including Sydney (Australia) they offer domestic and international ETFs to Australian investors.

Russell Investments

Another big player that come next to Vanguard and iShares is Russell Investments. They now have offices in above 40 countries. They also offer varied range of commercial services and products.

Australian Index Investments- AII

They offer ETFs related to domestic sector, also providing access to resources, financials and energy.

Beta Shares

They offer variety of equity indices that can be transacted on ASX. Australians manage as well as own this company and it is also one of BetaPro affiliates.

 

Asia ETF

It has been revealed in the recent study conducted last year that there are 250 Asia ETFs in Asia Pacific market alone and has assets of $70 billion.
